Best Estimate and Invoice Apps for Solo Contractors (2026)
Last updated: October 2026. Prices checked October 2026 on each company's site or the sources listed at the bottom.
If you run a one-person trade business (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, handyman, lawn care, cleaning, painting), you don't need software built for a 20-truck company. You need to write an estimate at the customer's door, get it signed, turn it into an invoice, and get paid. Here's how four popular options compare for that job.

How we compared
We looked at what a one-person trade business needs every week: writing an estimate, getting it signed, invoicing, taking deposits, and the price of the cheapest plan that does all of that. Prices and limits come from each company's own pricing and help pages, checked in October 2026 (see Sources). We didn't test every feature of every app, and we wrote this page ourselves, so check the sources before you decide.
Invoice Simple
What it does well
- Very low entry price ($6.99/mo).
- Unlimited estimates on every plan, and estimates convert to invoices.
- Built-in card payments in several countries.
Watch out for
- Invoice limits: 3 per month on Essentials, 10 per month on Plus. Unlimited invoices need Premium ($21.99/mo).
- Client signatures and deposits are listed as Premium features. Invoice Simple notes that client signatures are "for presentation purposes only."
Jobber
What it does well
- A full field service platform. Even Core includes unlimited quotes and invoices, online quote approval, online payments, scheduling, and online request forms and booking.
- Grows with you if you add a crew, with higher plans for teams.
Watch out for
- Price for a one-person business: Core is $49/mo month to month, or $29/mo billed yearly (Jobber sometimes offers a lower first-year rate).
- Core is 1 user. Automated quote and invoice follow-ups, automated reminders, job costing and QuickBooks sync are on higher plans.
Joist
What it does well
- Low monthly price. Basics is $10/mo.
- Long-established, with a large user base.
- Digital signature acceptance and payment schedules on Basics.
Watch out for
- Basics is limited to 5 estimates and invoices per month. Unlimited documents, your logo on documents, and view/sign notifications need Pro ($17/mo).
- Card and eCheck processing fees are billed separately.
OmniFlow HQ
What it does well
One plan with everything included, and no limits on estimates, invoices or clients.
Estimates
- Ready-made line items for your trade with typical U.S. prices you can edit, or add your own.
- Taxable and non-taxable items, your own tax rate, discounts and an optional deposit.
- Your profit margin on every estimate, from your material and labor costs (only you see it).
- Set how many days an estimate stays valid, and duplicate past estimates.
Signatures
- Customers sign on your phone at the job, or from a link you send by text or email. No app or login for them.
- They can draw their signature or type their name.
- Every online signature comes with a Signature Record page in the PDF: when the estimate was sent, first opened and signed, the signer's IP address, device and browser, and a fingerprint of the estimate's contents. Once signed, the estimate is locked.
- Your own signature goes on every estimate and invoice as "Prepared by."
Invoices and getting paid
- Turn a signed estimate into an invoice in one tap.
- Deposits and partial payments, with the balance updating itself.
- "Pay now" on invoices and "Pay deposit" after signing: your customer pays you directly through your own Square, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App or Stripe link, or Zelle. OmniFlow HQ never touches the money.
- Payment reminder emails and estimate follow-ups, sent with a tap.
- One "owed to you" total across all your unpaid invoices.
Running the business
- A quote request form you can share as a link or put on your website. Requests land in a Requests tab and turn into estimates.
- Schedule jobs and add them to your phone's calendar.
- Each client's full history: estimates, invoices, deposits, payments and what they still owe.
- Ask for a Google or Yelp review with a ready-made message.
- Clean PDFs with your logo, in your logo's colors.
- Export your clients, estimates and invoices to CSV anytime.

FAQ
- Do I need an app, or is a template enough?
- A template works for a few jobs a month. An app saves you retyping the same line items, gets signatures without printing, and tracks who still owes you.
- Can my customer sign an estimate without downloading anything?
- In OmniFlow HQ and Joist, yes: the customer opens a link on their phone and signs there. In Jobber, the customer approves the quote online. On Invoice Simple, client signatures are part of the Premium plan.
- Are e-signatures legally binding?
- That depends on your state and the agreement. Apps record the signature; none of them can promise it will hold up in every case. If it matters for a big job, ask a lawyer.
